Everything you need to know about Pennsylvania food handler training
Food Handler Training
“Food handler" refers to an individual working with unpackaged food, food equipment or utensils, or food-contact surfaces.
Accredited Food Handler Training (like Userve’s course) is a legal requirement for food handler employees in many states. Holding a Certificate of Completion or Food Handlers Card shows employers that you've received training and passed the required exam.
ANAB is the ANSI National Accreditation Board. It is a non-profit organization that oversees administration and coordination of standards and technical regulations in the U.S. ANAB provides a framework for fair standard development and represents the interests of more than 270,000 organizations and 30 million professionals worldwide. Userve’s course is ANAB-accredited.
ANAB-accredited training is required in many states for employment in the food service industry. Completing a course that has been accredited by a trusted certifying body like ANAB ensures that no matter the requirement in your state, you’re equipped with the highest standard of food handler training. Contact your local health department for specific requirements in your area. Userve’s course is ANAB-accredited.

Assessments & Final Exam
At the end of the Pennsylvania Food Handler Training Course, you will be required to complete a final exam that you must pass in order to get your certificate. You have 3 attempts to pass the final exam and you must score at least 70%.
A Food Handlers Card, Food Handlers Certificate, and Certificate of Completion are all terms that describe what you get once you’ve successfully completed a food handler training program and passed a final exam. You may also find the term “Food Handlers License” being used to describe this type of certificate.
Once you have successfully completed the Food Safety Training Program, you will need to write a final exam. Once you pass the final exam with a score of at least 70%, we will issue you your Certificate of Completion by email.
Holding a Food Handlers Certificate shows employers and health inspectors that you've received training to understand the fundamentals of food safety.
Upon successfully finishing the program, you will receive your Certificate of Completion that you can then show to your employer to confirm you’ve completed the training. Your local county may require additional verification steps. Contact your local authority to learn more.
Your Food Handlers Certificate is valid for three years from the date of issue (subject to change – verify with your local county health department). The certificate is not transferable to other people and cannot be applied to other courses in food safety training.
